Family Planning & Antenatal Care

Family Planning

  • We provide pre-conception counselling to help optimize your health when planning a pregnancy.
  • If you’re experiencing difficulty conceiving, we can arrange initial investigations, including blood tests, semen analysis and we work closely with specialist clinics.
  • For those who are pregnant, Midleton Medi Centre is a member of the HSE Maternity and Infant Care Scheme, which offers free antenatal care to expectant mothers, as well as a 2-week baby check and a 6-week check-up for both mother and baby.

Antenatal Care

  • Mothers are entitled to free inpatient and outpatient care scheme antenatal care is provided free of charge to all expectant mothers using a combination of her own GP and a midwife/hospital obstetrician. For you this means that you will have your antenatal care split between Midleton Medi Centre and Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH).
  • Some people may wish to attend an obstetrician privately. Please enquire in our practice for a list of private obstetrics consultants.
  • Early on in your pregnancy routine blood tests are sent to check your blood group and to screen for anaemia and certain viruses. Also a urine sample is sent to the lab to screen for bacteria.

At each scheduled GP visit you will provide a urine sample, your blood pressure will be checked and you will be examined. Any issues or concerns you might have can be discussed at these visits.
